Man shot, killed in Akron following possible 'altercation'

Akron police officers found the victim, 41, suffering from gunshot wounds at the intersection of Inman Street and Davies street.

CLEVELAND — A man is dead after a shooting in Akron early Sunday morning, police said. 

According to Akron police, officers responded to a shots fired call near the corner of Inman Street and East Archwood Avenue around 3:50 a.m. 

After police arrived, officers found the victim, 41, suffering from gunshot wounds a few blocks away at the intersection of Inman Street and Davies street. 

Police rendered first aid until EMS arrived. The man, who police declined to identify until the incident is investigated further, was transported to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators found that the victim had recently left Pour House Bar in the 700 block of East Archwood Avenue before he was "confronted by an unknown assailant." The assailant shot the victim several times with a handgun, police said. 

Police said an "altercation" at the bar may have taken place before the shooting. 

Evidence was recovered from the scene and the shooting remains under investigation.
