Akron Police searching for suspect that led them on chase in stolen car

Police are working to identify the driver of the stolen auto and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Akron Police Department is seeking the public's help identifying and locating a suspect wanted for leading them on a pursuit in a stolen truck.

According to reports, officers spotted a red Dodge Ram 3500  in the Chapel Hill area that was reported as stolen on Wednesday. Police say the truck, with a flatbed, was stolen from a closed business in the 1000 block of Evans Avenue. 

Officers called for backup and tried to initiate a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop and a pursuit began. The suspect led officers into Stark County while evading stop sticks deployed by officers in attempt to end the pursuit. 

While evading police, the driver stuck another motorist. However, no injuries were reported. 

Police are currently working to identify the driver. A and no arrests have been made at this time. The chase was called off in the area of Rt. 62 and California Ave so that officers could check on the uninvolved motorist that was struck by the fleeing suspect.  

The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned in a field in the 3400 block of Baird Ave S.E. in Paris Twp. The vehicle is being held for processing.

No arrests have been made at this time.  Police are working to identify the driver of the stolen auto and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
