Iconic Strickland's frozen custard stand reopens in Akron this Friday

Stricklandโ€™s got its start back in 1936, founded by Bill and Florence Strickland.

AKRON, Ohio โ€” It's that time of year again!

Strickland's is returning from its annual winter slumber as the iconic frozen custard stand on Triplett Boulevard in Akron opens for the 2023 season starting Friday, March 3.

Known for serving up two special flavors each day, Stricklandโ€™s is kicking off the 2023 season with banana and black raspberry from March 3-5. That's followed by lemon and blueberry from March 6-8 with black cherry and Reese's cup on the calendar from March 9-11.

Although banana is always a popular choice when it's offered as a "flavor of the day," chocolate and vanilla are always available along with sundaes, milkshakes and more. Here's the full Strickland's menu.

Here's a look at their flavor-of-the-day calendar for the entire month of March:

Stricklandโ€™s got its start back in 1936, founded by Bill and Florence Strickland.

โ€œDuring his years as an Akron Pure Milk employee, Bill developed his own rich recipe of cream, eggs, sugar and other ingredients,โ€ according to Stricklandโ€™s site. โ€œWith his formula perfected, Bill turned his attention to developing an ice cream machine (called a โ€˜batch freezerโ€™) that would quickly freeze the ice cream, while limiting the air whipped into the product.โ€

Stricklandโ€™s says the original ice cream stand along Triplett Boulevard still uses the same batch freezers from all those decades ago.
