AKRON, Ohio — It’s that time of year again – and a certain sign of warmer days ahead.
Strickland’s – the iconic frozen custard stand along Triplett Boulevard in Akron – is open for the 2022 season starting Friday.
Known for serving up two special flavors at a time, Strickland’s is kicking things off this year with banana and black raspberry from March 4-6, which is then followed up by grape and butter pecan from March 7-9.
Chocolate and vanilla are always available along with sundaes, milkshakes and more. Here's their menu.
Strickland’s got its start back in 1936, founded by Bill and Florence Strickland.
“During his years as an Akron Pure Milk employee, Bill developed his own rich recipe of cream, eggs, sugar and other ingredients,” according to Strickland’s site. “With his formula perfected, Bill turned his attention to developing an ice cream machine (called a ‘batch freezer’) that would quickly freeze the ice cream, while limiting the air whipped into the product.”
Strickland’s says the original ice cream stand along Triplett Boulevard still uses the same batch freezers from all those decades ago.
