Summa Health has announced its biggest investment in renovations and construction in more than 125 years.
On Tuesday morning, officials announced updates to Summa Health and unveiled artist renderings of the upgrades. The first phase of the project entails a $270 million investment over a five-year period.
Phase 1 of construction includes:
-A new front door to Summa Akron City Hospital featuring a 300,000 square foot tower
-New women's health facilities
-More private rooms in Akron City Hospital
-A 50,000 square foot medical office building
-Modernization of portions of Summa Barberton Hospital, including a new imaging and diagnostic center
Akron officials say the renovations and updates are expected to make a significant impact on the city's economy. They say it will also change the way healthcare is administered across the region.
