University of Akron resumes 'normal operations' this week after Jayland Walker grand jury decision

'All daytime and evening in-person classes will resume as scheduled in all buildings – including in the Polsky Building and College of Business,' UA said in a tweet.

AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron announced Sunday night that "normal operations" would resume on campus starting Monday.

"All daytime and evening in-person classes will resume as scheduled in all buildings -- including in the Polsky Building and College of Business," UA said in a tweet.

It comes after the university moved all in-person classes at the main campus to remote instruction starting Tuesday, April 18, "out of an abundance of caution" after a Summit County grand jury declined to charge any of the eight officers involved in the deadly shooting of Jayland Walker.

In-person classes resumed at the main campus last Thursday -- with the exception of evening classes -- while the Polsky Building and College of Business remained in remote learning through the end of the week.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced the grand jury's decision in the Jayland Walker case last Monday.

"Legal justification does not change the terrible, permanent damage of Jayland Walker's death," Yost said. "I grieve the loss of this promising young life, although I recognize that no words of mine can offer much comfort to his family."
