All classes in the Polsky Building and College of Business were moved online Friday at noon until further notice.

AKRON, Ohio — While evidence is reviewed in the case of Jayland Walker, the University of Akron has announced its decision to move some classes online ahead of the grand jury's decision.

As of Friday at noon, classes in the Polsky Building and the College of Business were moved to remote learning until further notice. The University noted that classes that begin prior to noon on Friday will be held in person.

All employees in the buildings were asked to work from home on Friday afternoon and until further notice, as both buildings will be closed and swipe access will be disabled.

The City of Akron announced on Thursday that they are suspending public access to City Hall and the Justice Center beginning Friday at 5 p.m.

The decision to close the Akron Municipal Building and Harold K. Stubbs Building was made "for both the safety of city employees and the public, as well as the continuity of city operations," according to Akron officials."

Earlier this week, sources revealed to 3News that the Akron officers who fatally shot Jayland Walker will not testify in front of the grand jury. Law enforcement officers also told 3News that the special grand jury will not have a decision until next week.

Ahead of the highly anticipated decision, the City launched AkronUpdates.com, where community members can sign up to receive email notifications for any updates, including safety information and road closures.
