Water main break leaves some Akron residents without heat

Dominion Gas tells 3News that teams responded to an outage Saturday morning and discovered water in the lines caused by a water main break.

AKRON, Ohio — In Akron on Bowery street, the noise is deafening.

And it's the same at Cedar Knolls apartments. Residents have left there after a second night with no heat.

Bria Wright is one of the residents that lives there that is battling the elements.

“I had a space heater but it was pretty cold.”

Dominion Gas tells 3News that teams responded to an outage Saturday morning and discovered water in the lines caused by a water main break.

This is a major problem as dozens of crews work to restore their service.

The Akron Municipal Court will be closed Monday due to lack of heat and power in the courthouse.

And all across Akron there are outages. Up to 100 homes are without gas.

Brandon and his girlfriend can't take another night. They packed their car with clothes and will be staying at the Hilton.

The gas company is paying for their hotel room. He says this experience has helped him understand the plight of the homeless.

“Yeah it's really cold and they are out here. I’d rather be here than outside.”

The frigid conditions have been brutal for crews making the repairs. While their hands are cold, their hearts are full as they still take the time to help Bria Wright and her two kids out get out of a cold home.

She giggles as they volunteer to clean off her snow covered car.

“I’m not mad it's not their fault."
