PORTAGE LAKES, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division (ODNR) of Wildlife has announced the closure of the youth fishing area in Portage Lakes for renovations.
They did not specify the extent of specific renovations, but said the fishing area will remain closed through 2025.
The ODNR suggested an alternate location for youth anglers at nearby Little Turtle Pond inside Firestone Metro Park.
The park is located at 2400 Harrington Road in Akron, less than four miles from Portage Lakes. Little Turtle Pond is open year-round from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. everyday.
Each youth fisher must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Fishing is only permitted by those who are 15-years-old and younger, but the parent or guardian may assist the child. Each angler is only allowed to keep a maximum of five fish per day, according to park rules. Catch and release is allowed.
