ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio — The Ashtabula County Sheriff's Office says a deputy shot a suspect in the arm while responding to a call. The case will now be handled by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).

Chief Deputy Terry Moisio told 3News that deputies were called to a home on North Bend Road in Saybrook Township on at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon for a report of a man with a gun. Moisio says when sheriff's deputies arrived, the male suspect went into the garage and went for his gun. The suspect was shot in the arm by a deputy.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to recover. No deputies were injured during the incident.

Moisio says the case will be investigated by the Ohio BCI.

A spokesperson for the Ohio BCI did confirm to 3News that its crime scene unit was called to assist the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Office.
