GENEVA, Ohio — Members of the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Office confirm they are investigating the death of an 8-month-old boy this past weekend.
According to a release from the department, the child died Sunday afternoon at University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center. His mother took him there directly after calling 911 and telling dispatchers she had found him unconscious.
The woman later told authorities she had just finished feeding the infant and put him in bed when she went outside their Geneva Township home to take a phone call. When she returned 15 minutes later, the child was not breathing, and she subsequently administered CPR before rushing him to UH.
Experts have not released an exact cause of death. As per protocol with most law enforcement agencies, the sheriff's office will investigate the incident.
