After the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League (ACAPL) asked the public for support for a dog that was shot several times, the Ashtabula County Dog Warden is releasing more information on the incident.

According to officials, the incident happened on August 17 in the 3700 block of Padanarum Road in Geneva after Buster, the pup involved, slipped out of his collar at his home and ran off into the woods behind the home where he was staying.

Buster's family told the Ashtabula County Dog Warden that when the dog returned to the home on Padanarum Road, he had been shot several times. One of the dog's caretakers told an official with the dog warden that they did not have the money to take Buster to a veterinarian and that they had attempted to bandage up his wounds at home.

At this point, the dog warden worker noted that Buster's condition looked to be serious, and asked the caretaker if they would like to sign over the pup to the county for care.

Buster was surrendered to the ACAPL and was taken for treatment.

In a post on Facebook earlier this week, the ACAPL says that Buster is recovering in a foster home but will need surgery to repair the severe damage done.
