Ashtabula police-involved shooting under investigation

Officials with the Ohio Attorney General's Office confirm the Bureau of Criminal Investigation is working the case.

ASHTABULA, Ohio -- Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting in Ashtabula.

It happened early Friday at the 400 block of W. 38th Street.

Police responded to a call of an intruder with a gun holding a female resident at gunpoint. Three officers responded and encountered two men involved in a struggle inside the home. One of the men had a gun.

When an officer ordered the man to drop the gun, police say he failed to comply.

The officer fired a shot, striking the man with the gun. The man was taken to a hospital via helicopter. His condition is unknown, according to police.

Officials with the Ohio Attorney General's Office confirm the Bureau of Criminal Investigation is working the case. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave.
