ASHTABULA, Ohio — One passenger died, and three were hurt following a boat crash in Ashtabula County on Tuesday night.
According to the Coast Guard, officials responded to the incident around 10 p.m. after a 28-foot boat crashed into the Ashtabula west break wall.
When the Coast Guard arrived on the scene, they found five people on board the boat. Officials say one of the passengers was unresponsive. The Coast Guard performed CPD on the individual until the Ashtabula Fire boat arrived and used an AED on the male.
Officials brought the passenger back to land, where he was transported by EMS to Ashtabula County Medical Center. Ashtabula Fire Chief Shawn Gruber confirmed that the unresponsive male died following the crash. The Ashtabula Coroners Office later confirmed that the man killed was a 74-year-old from Pennsylvania.
Three of the other passengers on board sustained minor injuries and received care from EMS at the Coast Guard Station. One additional person was not hurt.
The reason for the crash is unknown, and no other details were immediately released.
At this time, the Cost Guard and Ohio Division of Watercraft are on scene investigating what happened.
