CLEVELAND — A woman died following a motorcycle crash in Ashtabula County that also seriously injured the driver early Saturday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The OSHP said in a news release that the crash happened around 2:05 a.m. on Saturday.
A Harley Davidson driven by Anthony Konopinski, 43, veered off course on the east side of Stanhope-Kelloggsville Road in Williamsfield Township and struck a mailbox, the OSHP said. Troopers say the motorcycle continued on and hit a bridge before ending up in the creek below.
Konopinski's passenger, 33-year-old Williamsfield resident Julie Gore, became trapped under Konopinski's motorcycle. Troopers say neither of them were wearing a helmet.
Konopinski, also from Williamsfield, was flown to University Hospital. Gore was airlifted to a hospital where she later died from her injuries.
The OSHP is investigating the crash. Troopers say drugs or alcohol "may be a factor."
