ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio — A woman from Ashtabula died in a head-on crash Wednesday morning on Route 45, according to The Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Officials with OSHP say the crash happened at around 7:55 a.m. near milepost 25 in Saybrook Township.
Investigators say 52-year-old Brenda Hawes was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox south on Route 45 when her vehicle allegedly crossed the center line and hit a northbound garbage truck head-on.
Hawes was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was not hurt.
Route 45 was shut down for about two and a half hours while crews worked to investigate and clear the scene. The Saybrook Fire Department and ODOT assisted.
At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
