ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio — A 40-year-old Kingsville woman has died after a double shooting early Wednesday morning in the 2300 block of Eureka Road in Ashtabula Township during an alleged robbery attempt.

The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office first received a call about the incident around 4:30 a.m. When deputies arrived at the scene, they reportedly found the two shooting victims inside a box truck that had been converted into a residence.

The woman had a gunshot wound to the chest, while a 42-year-old Ashtabula man had a gunshot wound to the right leg. Both were taken to an area hospital where the woman later died from her injuries. The man was transferred to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where his condition is unknown.

Authorities say the man told deputies the shooting happened after two males came into the dwelling and attempted to rob them.

“When the victims told the subjects they didn’t have anything, one of the subjects fired shots at them,” according to a press release from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspects have not been located as the investigation continues.

Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
