AVON -- Avon's Police Chief says Johnny Manziel did not get any special treatment from police in their decision not to bring charges against him for a public argument with his girl friend that involved alcohol, dangerous driving and claims he got physical with her.
Chief RIchard Bosley says, "He didn't get a break but he also didn't get punished because he's Johnny Manziel."
Multiple dashcam videos, two pictures and two 9-1-1 calls that helped show exactly what happened were released on Monday.
Manziel admitted he's had a couple drinks.
He and his girlfriend Colleen Crowley were found parked by the side of the road following an escalating argument.
She threw his wallet out their car window. He would not give her her cell phone.
She told police there was some physical contact but she gave differing versions of the story.
And neither Manziel nor Crowley were charged.
Bosley says Manziel was not given a Breathalyzer because officers decided he was coherent and unimpaired during their interview.
And he said Manziel's publicized incidents involving alcohol were not relevant.
"If someone is not exhibiting signs of intoxication, we would not bring someone in," Bosley said.
9-1-1 callers reported high-speed, dangerous driving by Manziel near the Nagel Road interchange.
Bosley said officers did not witness that and any offenses probably happened in Westlake in Cuyahoga County prior to reaching Avon.
Police took pictures of a long scrape mark on Crowley's arm. She did not wish to press charges.
And Bosley said the abrasion was consistent with Manziel's claim of grabbing Crowley to protect her and stop her from jumping out of the car.
