CANTON, Ohio — Canton police are investigating after a Dollar General employee was shot during an attempted robbery last week.
According to a police report obtained by 3News, officers were dispatched to the store on Tuscarawas Street West on Friday, Nov. 1, at 8:28 p.m., after receiving multiple calls that someone was shot at the location.
When Canton police arrived at the scene, other agencies were already rendering aid to the victim.
Officers then went to the back of the store after noticing an open door and alarm going off. In addition, a security sweep of the store was done to make sure the suspect had left.
A witness at the scene told police that a man wearing a black hoodie allegedly came into the store and fired a pistol into the ceiling, and told the store employee to give him money.
After hearing the initial shot, witnesses ran to the back of the store and went out the back door. After leaving the store, witnesses told police they heard an additional 2-3 rounds fired.
At this time, the shooting remains under investigation.
