CANTON, Ohio — Two firefighters sustained minor injuries while battling separate fires in Canton early Monday morning – including one situation where two people had to be rescued.
Here’s a timeline of the events as provided by the Canton Fire Department…
FIRST FIRE
This incident was reported at 3:59 a.m. “in what appeared to be a boarded up vacant structure” in the 1200 block of Shorb Avenue NW.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they reportedly found heavy smoke and fire coming from the first floor.
“Two males were trapped in a front room of the building because the windows and doors were boarded up,” according to a press release from the Canton Fire Department.
Both were rescued and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
One firefighter also sustained minor injuries.
Damage to the structure is estimated at $20,000.
SECOND FIRE
This incident was reported at 4:18 a.m. at a residence in the 400 block of 37th Street NW.
Upon their arrival at the scene, firefighters said they found the fire in an attached garage was extending in the home.
“Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, but not before the home received heavy fire and smoke damage,” according to a press release.
Mutual aid was provided the by North Canton and Plain Township fire departments.
No civilians were hurt, but one firefighter sustained minor injuries.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
