Canton police update: Man dead 2 days after being shot

Melvin Stevenson died two days after being shot. Two people are in custody and charges against them are being amended.

CANTON, Ohio — A 36-year-old man who was found shot on Wednesday in Canton has died, according to police.

Melvin Stevenson was found unresponsive in a driveway in the 800 block of Rowland Avenue NE at around 3:10 p.m. He had gunshot wounds to the head and body. He was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital and succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

Canton police arrested a 29-year-old woman and 29-year-old man Wednesday afternoon. Detectives used the police department's camera system to identify and locate the suspects: Errol Frank and Tricia Stevenson-Frank.

Police also say that with help from the Canton City Prosecutor's Office, detectives executed a search warrant on Frank's residence.

Stevenson-Frank was initially charged with obstructing justice and Frank charged with attempt to commit murder. With the death of Melvin Stevenson, Canton police say the Stark County Prosecutor's Office will amend the charges.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Canton Police Bureau at 330-489-3144. Additionally, anonymous tips can be sent through Tip411 or the Stark County Crime Stoppers.
