CLEVELAND — The Girves Brown Derby location in Canton has closed its doors after over two decades in business.
The Northeast Ohio-based steakhouse chain’s Belden Village location announced the closure in a social media post Wednesday.
“Thank you to our loyal guests for our patronage & great memories,” the Girves family said in a statement. “It was our pleasure to serve you over the years.”
Owner Parris Girves told 3News that some employees from the Belden Village restaurant will be transferred to the chain’s other locations, which are in Medina, Middleburg Heights and Streetsboro.
Girves Brown Derby, which opened its first restaurant in Akron in 1941, will maintain its presence in Northeast Ohio. Girves told 3News that a full remodeling of the Middleburg Heights location is in the works, and a new location is planned on Cleveland’s west side. Girves declined to specify an opening date for the west side location.
The Canton Brown Derby, located at 4670 Everhard Rd., opened in 2003. Girves said he is exercising a purchase option in the company’s lease and will repurpose the property. Canton restaurateur Nick Pamboukis, owner of Mélange, is “in the wings” and working on a deal to take over the building, Girves said.
