RECAP: Baltimore Ravens open 2018 preseason with win over Chicago Bears in Hall of Fame Game

11:21 p.m.-RAVENS START PRESEASON WITH WIN OVER BEARS

CANTON, Ohio -- The Baltimore Ravens’ first foray in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game was a successful one.

After not playing in the Hall of Fame Game over their first two-plus decades in the National Football League, the Ravens made the trip to Canton, Ohio, for the annual kickoff to the NFL preseason and earned a 17-16 victory over the Chicago Bears in front of a sellout crowd of 19,876 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium Thursday night.

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III completed seven of his 11 attempts for 58 yards with one touchdown and an interception. Griffin III led the Ravens’ only scoring drives in the first half of the Hall of Fame Game.

Rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson entered the game in the third quarter and completed four of his 10 attempts for 33 yards and one touchdown for the Ravens.

Quarterback Tyler Bray led the way for the Bears with 18 completions in 34 attempts for 181 yards and one touchdown. In the starting lineup instead of Mitchell Trubisky, veteran quarterback Chase Daniel completed only eight of his 16 attempts for 53 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

10:35 p.m.-BEARS DRAW CLOSER WITH FIELD GOAL

CANTON, Ohio -- The Chicago Bears broke a two-plus quarter scoring drought and drew to within seven points of the Baltimore Ravens, 17-10, on a Cody Parkey 22-yard field goal with 13:24 to play in the fourth period of the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, Thursday night.

Parkey’s field goal capped off an eight-play, 48-yard drive that took 2:43 off of the game clock.

10:02 p.m.-LAMAR JACKSON ENGINEERS TOUCHDOWN DRIVE

CANTON, Ohio -- Baltimore Ravens rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson shrugged off the early second-half struggles and helped convert a turnover into points when he engineered a touchdown drive at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

Jackson’s touchdown pass to rookie tight end Hayden Hurst gave the Ravens a 17-7 lead over the Chicago Bears with 9:09 remaining in the third quarter of play in the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.

After the Ravens forced a fumble on a pass in the right flat, Jackson led the seven-play, 36-yard scoring drive for Baltimore.

9:30 p.m.-BEARS, RAVENS PLAY SCORELESS SECOND QUARTER

CANTON, Ohio -- The Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens played a scoreless second quarter in the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, Thursday night.

Despite the scoreless second quarter, the Ravens held a 10-7 lead over the Bears at halftime in what serves as the on-field kickoff to the 2018 season for the National Football League, which is in its 99th year of operations.

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III completed seven of his 11 attempts for 58 yards with one touchdown and an interception. Griffin III led the Ravens’ only scoring drives in the first half of the Hall of Fame Game.

Bears quarterback Chase Daniel got the start while Chicago’s staff saved Northeast Ohio native Mitchell Trubisky for the remainder of the preseason. Daniel completed eight of his 16 attempts for 53 yards and one touchdown against two interceptions against the Ravens.

8:45 p.m.-RAVENS TAKE 10-7 LEAD OVER BEARS

CANTON, Ohio -- The Baltimore Ravens turned an interception and 19-yard return into a 31-yard field goal and 10-7 lead over the Chicago Bears with 1:42 remaining in the first quarter of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

Rookie kicker Kaare Vedvik capped off the brief four-play drive with a 31-yard field goal.

Listed third on the depth chart at strong-side linebacker, Kamalei Correa intercepted a pass from Bears quarterback Chase Daniel and returned the throw, which as intended for tight end Dion Sims, deep into Chicago territory to set up Baltimore’s second consecutive scoring drive.

8:36 p.m.-RGIII THROWS TD PASS FOR RAVENS

CANTON, Ohio -- Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III is trying to reignite his NFLcareer with the Baltimore Ravens, and after a rocky start with an interception off of a deflected pass to start the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game against the Chicago Bears, he engineered a scoring drive.

Griffin III rolled out to his right and found tight end Maxx Williams open in the flat beyond the goal line for the touchdown.

The ensuing extra-point try was good and drew the Ravens even with the Bears, 7-7, at the 4:00 mark of the first quarter from Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

Griffin III engineered an eight-play, 77-yard drive that took 4:21 off the first-quarter clock.

8:25 p.m.-BEARS TAKE LEAD OVER RAVENS

CANTON, Ohio -- After the Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears traded interceptions on their respective first possessions of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, the Bears took a 7-0 lead with a touchdown at the 8:21 mark of the first quarter at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

Bears backup quarterback Chase Daniel rifled a pass over the middle of the field for fullback Michael Burton, and the fourth-year man out of Rutgers hauled in the catch at the one before muscling his way into the end zone for the initial score of the 2018 preseason.

Former Cleveland Browns kicker Cody Parkey converted the extra-point try and gave the Bears a 7-0 lead over the Ravens.

The scoring drive covered 34 yards in six plays and was started by an interception off a tipped pass from Ravens quarterback Robert Griffin III.

4:45 p.m.-NFL SEASON STARTS TONIGHT

CANTON, Ohio -- The journey to Atlanta officially gets underway tonight.

Six months have passed since the Philadelphia Eagles upset the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII, and now, the journey to this year's final game, which will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, starts in the very city professional football was born.

The Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens kick off the 2018 NFL season in the Hall of Fame Game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio tonight.

It will be a homecoming of sorts for Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who grew up in Mentor, Ohio, while the Ravens will be making their first-ever appearance in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.
