CLEVELAND — Northeast Ohio native and star of the stage Carrie Coon is returning to her roots in September for a special event celebrating her hit HBO show "The Gilded Age" in Canton.

The Copley High School and Mount Union University graduate will visit the Canton Palace Theatre for "An Afternoon with Carrie Coon," featuring an episode screening of the Julian Fellowes drama followed by a Q&A session with the actress and lead costumer Kasia Walicka-Maimone.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Massillon Museum to host Carrie Coon, a talent who has brought so much depth to her roles in 'The Gilded Age' and beyond," said Georgia Paxos, Canton Palace Theatre executive. "This event will not only celebrate her achievements but also provide our community with an enriching cultural experience."

The Q&A will be moderated by Brian Centron, guest curator of the Massillon Museum's Gilding Northeast Ohio: Fashion and Fortune 1870-1900, a special exhibit running at the museum until Oct. 13.

Coon was nominated for a Tony award for her work in Steppenwolf Theatre Company's production of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" in 2014 and won a Critic's Choice award for her starring role as Nora Durst in HBO's "The Leftovers" in 2016. She has starred in FX's "Fargo," David Fincher's "Gone Girl" and recent installments of the "Avengers" and "Ghostbusters" franchises.

For her work as new money socialite Bertha Russell in "The Gilded Age," Coon has a pending nomination for outstanding lead actress in a drama series at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 15. She will also appear in a main role in the upcoming season of Mike White's buzzy HBO anthology "The White Lotus."

"An Afternoon with Carrie Coon" begins at 1 p.m. on Sept. 8, with doors opening at 12:30 p.m. The event is free to attend but online registration is required
