Ohio BCI investigating after Canton officer shoots, kills suspect during exchange of gunfire: What police are saying

During the incident, authorities say one officer was grazed on the arm by a bullet, but was not seriously injured.

CANTON, Ohio — The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) tells 3News they are investigating an incident that saw police shoot and kill a suspect overnight in Canton.

Canton police say it was around 10:07 p.m. Wednesday when they responded to a disturbance at 311 25th Street Southwest. Canton Police Chief John Gabbard says that upon arriving at the scene, officers were "fired upon and returned fire, wounding the suspect." 

The suspect was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries. The suspect has since been identified as 41-year-old Jeffrey Neff. 

Canton police say that one officer was grazed by a bullet fired by the suspect, but did not suffer any injuries.

BCI says the investigation, which was requested by the Canton Police Department, is in its preliminary stages. You can see dash cam video from the Ohio State Highway Patrol from the incident in the player below.
