Body of missing man recovered from Chippewa Lake after overnight search

The man's identity has not yet been released.

CHIPPEWA LAKE, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) recovered the body of a missing man from Chippewa Lake in Medina County, Sunday evening. 

According to officials, the search began Saturday night around 9 p.m. after the man was seen by witnesses jumping from a boat. According to those at the Lake, the man did not resurface after the jump.

Officials immediately began their search and continued their efforts over night and on Sunday when the man's body was discovered around 7:30 p.m.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources spearheaded the search but was assisted by the Medina County Sheriff Office, Medina Park District, Westfield Fire Department, Medina Count All Hazards Team, and Wooster Township Dive and Rescue. 

The lake grounds were closed while law enforcement officials combed the area in search of the man and will remain closed until further notice. 

The man's identity has not yet been released.
