CLEVELAND — After more than 30 years on the job, Cleveland Division of Police Deputy Chief Deon McCauley is retiring.
Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson, Director of Public Safety Karrie D. Howard and Police Chief Calvin D. Williams made the announcement on Thursday morning, thanking Deputy Chief McCaulley for his years of service.
“On behalf of the citizens of the City of Cleveland, I want to congratulate Deputy Chief Deon McCaulley for his appointment as the new Chief of Police for the Cleveland Clinic. I know that he will do a great job in his new position, just as he has done here for more than 30 years at the City of Cleveland,” said Mayor Jackson.
Deputy Chief McCaulley began with the Cleveland Division of Police in 1990 and was promoted to Sergeant in 1997 and to Lieutenant in 2000. In 2006, he was appointed to Commander by Mayor Jackson, overseeing the Bureau of Community Policing and then the Fourth Neighborhood Police District. In 2015, Mayor Jackson again promoted McCaulley to Deputy Chief.
McCauley will officially leave his position from the Cleveland Division of Police on Feb. 15, and will begin his new position as Chief of Police at the Cleveland Clinic that same day.
“Deon’s distinguished career with the Cleveland Division of Police and his background make him exceptionally qualified to lead our own police department into a bright future,” said William Peacock, Chief of Operations at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. “His strong relationships with the City of Cleveland and other leaders within our community will serve him and Cleveland Clinic well, as he steps into his new role in this ever-changing landscape of healthcare policing.”
