A Cleveland woman spoke at MetroHealth Medical Center Wednesday evening, nine years after being shot in the face by her boyfriend.

Johanna Orozco was shot and critically injured, by the same 17-year-old boy accused of raping her at knife point a month before being shot.

Instead of being held in a detention facility for the rape charge, the 17-year-old, Juan Ruiz, was put on home detention with a monitoring ankle band.

He allegedly shot Johanna point blank in the face with a shotgun to prevent her from testifying against him.

Ruiz was re-arrested shortly after the shooting.

Orozco lost both her parents some years ago. She was raised by her grandparents and extended family.

Johanna needed several surgeries on her face, after the trauma.

"God gave me basically a second chance to life," Orozco said.

Orozco now lives in Germany with her small child and husband. She's hoping to one day come back home to Cleveland.

She says since her tragedy, two measures to help teens get protection orders, have become law. Johanna continues to support teen dating education.
