CLEVELAND — An 11-year-old boy is dead following a shooting in Cleveland.
Police tell 3News it was around 10:22 p.m. Tuesday when officers responded to the 4000 block of West 49th Street in response to a child shot. Upon their arrival, officers found the boy with a gunshot wound to his abdomen and administered first aid until Cleveland EMS arrived at the scene.
EMS continued care and took the boy to MetroHealth where he later died.
Police say members of the homicide unit also responded to the scene for the investigation.
“Preliminary information indicates that the child may have accessed a firearm, however circumstances are still under investigation,” police said in a press release.
No additional details were immediately available, but stay with 3News as we will update this story once more information is released.
