CLEVELAND — A 15-year-old boy was taken to the hospital following an incident outside Cleveland Central Catholic High School Friday afternoon.
According to the Diocese of Cleveland, the teen is a student at the high school on Baxter Avenue and was hit by what was initially believed to have been a pellet gun as classes were dismissed. On Saturday, police determined that a weapon other than a pellet gun was likely involved.
After administrators called 911, the boy was taken from the scene via ambulance, accompanied by a teacher.
"This was an isolated incident and everyone else is safe," the diocese said in a statement. "We do not have information on the injured student at this time. Please keep this young person and all of our students and families in your prayers."
On Saturday, the Diocese of Cleveland announced that "out of an abundance of caution" all on-campus activities were canceled for Saturday, including the Cleveland Central Catholic High School football game being moved to an off-campus location with no spectators. The school also announced that the homecoming dance will be rescheduled for a later date.
Additionally, only faculty will be required to report to the school on Monday, Oct. 16, as all classes will be canceled.
It is not known at this time what led up to the altercation. Cleveland police say there is an "active investigation" ongoing, and no suspects have been named at this time.
