6 people shot while standing on a porch in Cleveland Monday morning, officials investigating

The victims told police that they initially believed the gunfire to be fireworks.

The Cleveland Division of Police is investigating a shooting that took place in the early hours of the morning Monday. 

According to officials, around 4:20 a.m., six individuals were shot while standing on a porch outside of a residence in the 4100 block of East 81st Street on the city's east side.

An early investigation reveals that the victims were shot by someone who was standing in a field across the street, and the individuals initially believed the gunshots to be fireworks. 

A 25-year-old male sustained gunshot wounds to the left leg and hip, a 25-year-old woman was shot in the hand, a 19-year-old male and a 20-year-old male were each shot in the foot, and two 18-year-old men were grazed by bullets.

Officials tell 3News that there is no further information available at this time. 

The matter remains under investigation by police.
