CLEVELAND — An 8-year-old boy is dead following a house fire in southeast Cleveland overnight, officials confirm to 3News.
The blaze broke out around midnight at a home near the intersection of East 68th Street and Harvard Avenue, part of the Slavic Village neighborhood. The Cleveland Division of Fire says the child was a twin, but at this time it does not appear any other family members were hurt.
According to Lt. Mike Norman of the Cleveland Division of Fire, it appears that the fire was accidental. Investigators believe that the fire started in the back of the house where the children were sleeping.
A firefighter received second-degree burns to his hands but was subsequently treated and released, according to authorities. Volunteers from the Red Cross have also been seen assisting the family.
This is a developing story, and investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire. Please stay with 3News for updates as they become available.
