CLEVELAND — 3News has obtained 911 calls from the moments Cleveland police officers arrived on scene to arrest murder suspect De'Lawnte Hardy, just before he allegedly shot and killed now-fallen officer Jamieson Ritter.
Police had arrived on the 1500 block of East 80th Street with a warrant to arrest Hardy for allegedly shooting his grandmother a few days prior.
These 911 calls came to Cleveland Dispatch just before 1 a.m. on July 4.
The two callers said they were Hardy's great-uncles and that he shot their sister -- Hardy's grandmother -- in the back of the head in Garfield Heights.
They told dispatchers that Hardy was now hiding in his mother's house on East 80th Street in Cleveland, and that there was a warrant for his arrest.
"I have a family member who's wanted for murder," one of the great-uncles said. "He actually shot my sister and he's been hiding out, but I just seen him. I just took pictures and everything, so they'll know for sure. He might be armed. But he's in his mom's house right now."
The relatives explained that they had "set a little trap" for Hardy.
"I was able to lure him," one of the great-uncles told dispatchers. "But the only way we was able to get him to come out was to give him some weed, to be totally honest."
One of the great-uncles was parked across the street from the home, saying he was watching Hardy peak out of the door of the home. He became more frantic as he urged officers to arrive faster.
“Can you get them out here, please? He shot my sister. Please, just get them out here. He's in the house right now. That's why I don't want him to leave,” he urged.
His reaction was strongly emotional once they did get on scene.
"Thank you! Oh my God! I love how you all just, Oh, you got him here! Yes, please! Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord!" The great-uncle exclaimed.
But according to Cleveland police, things then took a tragic downturn.
When officers arrived, 3News is told that Hardy tried to flee on a bicycle and officers chased him.
Hardy allegedly pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots. One of those bullets would hit and kill Officer Jamieson Ritter.
As for Hardy's grandmother who was shot on June 28, she died on July 4, the same day Ritter passed away.
On Wednesday, a Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted Hardy for murdering both Officer Ritter and his grandmother.
His arraignment is set for Monday.
