The Mid-American Conference Tournament has been canceled, but arena employees who were counting on compensation this weekend will still be paid.

Shortly after announcing the cancellation of the MAC Tournament, Cleveland Cavaliers CEO Len Komoroski announced that employees scheduled to work at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse through the weekend will still be compensated as if they did. The MAC Tournament -- as well as college basketball tournaments -- announced their cancellations on Thursday due to concerns over the coronavirus (COVID-19).

"As it pertains to our part-time workers; ushers, ticket takers, security, who would have otherwise worked the event, they will be compensated as if they had worked," Komoroski said.

In addition to this week's MAC Tournaments, coronavirus concerns will likely affect other events at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse including the arena's two primary tenants: the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Monsters. On Wednesday evening, the NBA announced that it has suspended its season after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus.

On Thursday, it was revealed that Utah guard Donovan Mitchell had also tested positive for COVID-19. Gobert and the Jazz played the Cavs at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on March 2.

Currently, Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse is slated to host first and second-round games of the men's NCAA Tournament next week. It remains to be seen if those games will go on as planned.
