Asian Lantern Festival brings brightness and culture to Cleveland Zoo

The Asian Lantern Festival begins Thursday, July 19, at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The cultural experience runs through the end of August.

CLEVELAND -- The set up of more than 40 larger-than-life lanterns took about a month, but visitors of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo can enjoy them through the end of August.

We're talking about the brand new Asian Lantern Festival, which kicks off Thursday night at the zoo.

It runs from July 19-August 19.

Beyond the exciting and colorful lanterns, guests can enjoy the Asian culture spread out throughout the zoo. The festival takes place after hours from 6:30 p.m. - 10 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays. It features music, authentic Asian cuisine, a craft market and live performances.

Cleveland Metroparks Chief Marketing Officer Kelly Manderfield says it's an experience for all ages.

"There's really something for everyone. So, folks that might not be coming to the zoo, maybe they're empty nesters? There's a reason to come back and check out the zoo, or maybe you're looking for an activity to out out on a date. This is really the perfect location," Manderfield said.

Members can buy tickets online for $14.50, non-members pay $17.50. Or, you can buy at the box office for $20.50.
