CLEVELAND — A new method of transportation is coming to Cleveland.
Supplementing their existing e-scooter fleet in Cleveland, Bird Global Inc. is launching its shared e-bike service in the city Tuesday.
Cleveland is the first location in Ohio to welcome Bird’s e-bike services, which begins with 100 bikes. This launch comes amid high gas prices impacting all of Northeast Ohio.
“The new, shared e-assist bikes come with several safety and sustainability features, including dual hand brakes, advanced onboard diagnostics, aluminum alloy framing and a maximum range of 56 miles on a single battery charge,” Bird officials said in a press release.
Each bike also has an “e-assist motor,” which is intended to help riders coast up hills with as much as a 20 percent grade.
“They will have geofence technology to slow or stop the motor in designated areas,” officials noted.
Cleveland residents and visitors can get 50 percent off their first ride under 30 minutes by using code CLEBIKE.
"We are thrilled to add Bird e-bikes to the shared micromobility options in the City of Cleveland," Mayor Justin Bibb said. "Scooters and bikes are a convenient and sustainable option for short trips around the city. There are currently four shared mobility companies working with city departments, local universities, Cuyahoga County and our residents to ensure these efforts are as safe, useful and equitable as possible."
Bird says Cleveland riders have traveled nearly 400,000 miles using their scooters to date.
