Photos: Car slams into Cleveland home following stolen vehicle pursuit

According to Cleveland EMS, the driver was gone when they arrived.

CLEVELAND — A home was seriously damaged after a car slammed into a Cleveland home Tuesday morning, officials tell 3News.

It happened just after 8:30 a.m. on Wetzel Avenue, but the whole ordeal started in Parma about 30 minutes before the accident.

Parma police said they responded to the American Red Cross on Pearl Road for a report of a suspicious person in the parking lot.

An officer approached the car, a 2020 Hyundai Elantra, and began to speak with the driver, a 17-year-old male. That's when, according to police, the teen sped off, leading police on a pursuit.

After the teen suspect crossed over Brookpark Road in Cleveland, he turned eastbound on Wetzel Avenue, struck a street sign, then lost control of the car, crashing into the north side of a home in the 4500 block of Wetzel.

A 25-year-old woman and her infant were inside of the home at the time of the crash, but neither were hurt.

After the crash, the teen driver ran from the scene. He was later arrested in the area of State and Brookpark roads, Parma police said.

The teen suffered a compound fracture to his right arm during the accident and was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.

The car was later determined to be stolen out of Cleveland.

The teen's case will be forwarded to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, where he will face criminal charges.
