CLEVELAND — Although he has been functioning as the mayor of Cleveland since Monday, Justin Bibb was ceremonially swearing-in today at the Public Auditorium.

The event took 2 p.m. and was livestreamed on WKYC.com as well as on the WKYC app, Facebook Live, and YouTube. You can watch the full ceremony in the player at the top of this story.

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Melody Stewart administered the oath of office in front of an audience that was be limited to family, essential staff and members of the media due to COVID-19.

Cleveland's charter mandates a mayoral term to begin on the first Monday in January after an election, so Bibb officially took the oath of office just after midnight on Jan. 3 at the Cleveland Public Library's East 131st Street branch, located in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood where he grew up. Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Michael Nelson administered the oath of office, which Bibb repeated as he laid his left hand on a bible being held by his mother, Charlene.

In his first week in office, Bibb met with tenants at the West Side Market as his administration works on strengthening relations with vendors at the city-owned landmark. He has also put together a COVID-19 task force and visited the Cleveland Department of Health's vaccination center.
