CLEVELAND — A 9-year-old boy has died after Cleveland police say he was struck by a vehicle in an alleged hit-and-run incident Sunday evening.
This marks the second deadly weekend hit-and-run in which Cleveland police say a child was struck and killed by a vehicle.
Police say it happened around 8:49 p.m. in the 4100 block of Bohn Road when a dark-colored Jeep SUV struck the child “who ran into the roadway between two parked cars.”
Police say the driver fled the scene.
The boy was pronounced dead at MetroHealth Medical Center. He was identified as Jaymere Grady, 9, of Cleveland.
"I just want my son back," said Nicole Hunter, Jaymere's mother. "I'm just heartbroken about my son. Like, why?" she explained through tears. Hunter is now pleading with the public's help to find the driver of the SUV.
"She just ran my baby down in the street like he just wasn't a human being. He didn't deserve that," she said.
Authorities released a photo of the suspect vehicle Monday morning asking for the public’s help in the case. Anybody with information regarding the driver’s identity or location of the vehicle is asked to call 216-621-1234 or Crimestoppers at 216-25-CRIME. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to support Jaymere's family. You can donate here.
In an unrelated hit-and-run incident, Cleveland police say a 5-year-old girl died after she was struck by a vehicle Saturday afternoon on West 50th Street.
