CLEVELAND — The City Club of Cleveland is on the move.
On Monday, 3News learned that the club is leaving its home of 40 years, 850 Euclid Avenue, to go right down the street to Playhouse Square by the fall of next year.
The new space will give the City Club of Cleveland approximately 50% more capacity.
Dan Moulthrop, the CEO of the City Club of Cleveland, told 3News' Christi Paul that the mix of civic, arts, and cultural partners will create a modern space that will be open to everybody.
"The City Club on one hand and Playhouse Square on the other, these are both vitally important organizations for our community," Moulthrop said. "That our leadership and Playhouse Square leadership can come together to figure out where our missions overlap, where we align, where we can work together to serve the community with important conversations that are ultimately about solutions to problems we share in our community is all really exciting."
The City Club of Cleveland will craft their new welcoming space with a $4 million renovation that will begin this spring.
"Playhouse Square enthusiastically welcomes the City Club to the neighborhood," added Playhouse Square President & CEO Gina Vernaci. "Their enduring tradition of civic engagement and convening power will be an impactful addition to our rich arts and culture offerings."
For more than a century, City Club of Cleveland has served as one of the leading free speech forums in the nation. Since 1912, all of the City Club of Cleveland's speakers—from sitting presidents to community activists—have answered unfiltered, unrehearsed questions directly from the audience.
