City of Cleveland fires officer Michael Brelo

Officials have confirmed the city of Cleveland will fire Officer Michael Brelo, due to his role in a deadly 2012 police chase.

CLEVELAND – City officials have confirmed that Officer Michael Brelo has been fired due to his role in a deadly 2012 police chase.

Tuesday afternoon, the city annoucned disciplinary actions for 13 officers involved in the chase, which left two unarmed suspects dead amid a hail of 137 shots fired in November 2012. Six officers were fired and six will be disciplined. One has already retired.

In all, more than 100 officers and 60 police vehicles were involved in the pursuit. Thirteen officers fired shots. Brelo, who fired the final shots, was the only officer who stood trial. He was acquitted of two counts of voluntary manslaughter last May.
