City of Cleveland suspends officials over Cleveland Hopkins Airport security breach

The city says the incident remains under investigation.

CLEVELAND -- The city of Cleveland has suspended two officials who were involved in a security incident at Cleveland Hopkins Airport.

The city on Tuesday announced that Assistant Director of Port Control Fred Szabo and City Chief of Operations Darnell Brown were suspended with pay.

Last week, WKYC reported that Brown passed through a TSA checkpoint but forgot something in his car, which was parked in an airport lot. Szabo reportedly met Brown at the checkpoint and allegedly escorted Brown to his car and allowed Brown to bypass the checkpoint on his return with the unidentified item not being screened by airport security.

It's not known what Brown carried on to the plane.

The city says the incident remains under investigation.
