CLEVELAND — The Greater Cleveland Aquarium’s reopening process will be happening in waves with passholders permitted to visit the attraction starting June 29 before the general public is granted access July 6.
Admission will be based on timed entry tickets. Reservations will be available online starting June 25.
- Passholders admission: June 29 – July 5 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
- General public admission: Starting July 6 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The aquarium will also feature safety protocols, including reduced capacity, additional sanitation measures and one-way paths.
“Areas where social distancing can’t be achieved will be temporarily closed -- including some interactives, play areas and animal encounters,” aquarium officials said in a press release. “All team members will have daily temperature checks and will wear protective facial coverings.”
“We remain committed to the well-being of our guests, our team and the animals in our care,” says GM Stephanie White. “These measures ensure that visitors will have plenty of opportunities to get close to the exhibits without having to get close to other guests.”
The Aquarium is working to offer weekly time blocks solely for senior citizens and those who are immune-compromised and, if there is demand, daily hours could be extended to accommodate more guests per day.
“Even though the state of Ohio approved reopening of educational attractions earlier in the month, the Aquarium, which endured more than 15 weeks without any source of revenue, was in the difficult situation of needing to furlough more than 80 percent of its employees,” aquarium officials noted.
White first had to call back staff in order to fully prepare for visitors.
"During the closure, we limited our expenses to conserve resources so that we could continue to deliver exceptional animal care with a minimal essential team," White says. "We're beyond delighted at the thought of sharing aquatic adventures with the community again.”
