Longtime Cleveland, Beachwood high school coach drowns at Myrtle Beach

Both school districts confirmed Marzell Pink's death late Thursday night.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Metropolitan School district is mourning the loss of a longtime employee and coach.

3News sister station WMBF in South Carolina confirms 49-year-old Marzell Pink died late Wednesday after drowning while on vacation with his family in Myrtle Beach. The school district further confirmed Pink's death to 3News, calling him "a beloved member of the CMSD school community."

Pink worked for Cleveland schools for almost 30 years, most recently as dean of engagement and powerlifting coach for Davis Aerospace and Maritime High School. He previously served as the head wrestling coach at East Tech and later as the school's head football coach from 2005-08, with the latter job landing him a part-time position as defensive line coach at Baldwin Wallace.

At the time of his death, Pink was also an assistant wrestling and strength coach at Beachwood High School. Superintendent Dr. Robert P. Hardis confirmed Pink's passing in a post shared to the Beachwood athletics Facebook page.
