‘Change of scenery this year’: Cleveland Marathon announces 2022 race courses

The full and half marathons are set for Sunday, May 22.

CLEVELAND — Editor's note: Video at the top of the story from last year's marathon was originally on Oct. 24, 2021.

Runners in the 45th Cleveland Marathon in May “will have a change of scenery this year” officials announced when revealing the 2022 race courses Tuesday.

All races will start and finish at Memorial Plaza in the shadow of the Fountain of Eternal Life statue in downtown Cleveland

NOTE: You can see maps of each race at the bottom of this story.

“Originally dedicated to Korea and Vietnam veterans, the fountain has since been known to recognize any loss of service men or women since 1899,” marathon officials noted in a press release. “The fountain also has subtle nods to diversity as it represents different cultures, religions and backgrounds.”

Highlights of the courses include Cleveland landmarks like Public Square, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Great Lakes Science Center.

“We’re pleased to announce the city has approved our courses,” said Ralph Staph, Cleveland Marathon race director. “These events have always highlighted the best of Cleveland, and we are proud to come together in person for another great race in front of this storied monument.”

Race weekend events begin with the Health and Fitness Expo at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland on Friday, May 20. The 5K and 10K will both be held on Saturday, May 21. The full and half marathons are slated for Sunday, May 22. Participants can register HERE.
