CLEVELAND — Jaylon Jennings, the 25-year-old man accused of a mass shooting in Cleveland's Warehouse District, pleaded no contest to multiple charges before his trial was scheduled to start on Wednesday morning.
Court records show Jennings was then found guilty to various charges, which include attempted murder, felonious assault, having weapons while under disability, grand theft and receiving stolen property.
“What was supposed to be a fun night out in the heart of Downtown Cleveland quickly turned into a nightmare for these nine individuals and dozens of others on West 6th Street,” said Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley. “It is a miracle that no one was killed, and more people were not injured. Our community continues to be plagued by gun violence. This plea is a firm reminder that gun violence is unacceptable and we will hold violent crime offenders accountable in our county.”
His sentencing is set for Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m.
CASE DETAILS
The mass shooting that injured nine people took place on West 6th Street near Johnson Court in downtown Cleveland around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 9.
Law enforcement officials say that Jennings and Kevin Del Valle-Salaman left Rumor Bar and Lounge at around 2 a.m. to go to Del Valle-Salaman's car, which was parked nearby. Jennings allegedly grabbed a gun, walked back to West 6th Street and waited for some of the victims to exit the bar.
Jennings then allegedly fired into a crowd of people before fleeing the scene. The nine victims who were shot ranged in age from 23-38 years. All of the victims survived.
Jennings was arrested last July on the following charges:
- Nine Counts of attempted murder
- 18 Counts of felonious assault
- Two counts of having a weapon under disability
- One count of grand theft
- One count of receiving stolen property
The Lorain native is currently being held on a $9 million bond after he pleaded not guilty in July 2023.
Del Valle-Salaman previously pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and obstructing justice. His sentencing will happen at a later date.
