CLEVELAND — Wednesday marks International Women's Day, and Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb is celebrating accordingly.
In a statement, Bibb paid tribute to the women of Cleveland, including his mother, Charlene Nichols-Bibb.
"Cleveland women empower, inspire, and uplift our city. They’re the backbone of our communities – always on the frontlines of progress," Bibb's statement reads.
"Today, I’m thinking of my mom. Everything I’ve been able to achieve in my life I owe to her. She was the first in my family to graduate from college and her dedication to serving our community as a social worker taught me to always put others first. Growing up, she told me that I was capable of anything and dedicated herself to making sure I had the best education and shot at life.
"My mom – and so many other Cleveland women – are the embodiment of sacrifice and resilience. Everyday as Mayor, I am amazed by the strength and resilience of the women in our city."
Bibb also shared a virtual card, which can be signed to "honor the unstoppable women of Cleveland." Those interested can sign the card here.
