Cleveland Metroparks Zoo announces return of Asian Lantern Festival: See what's new for 2024

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's popular Asian Lantern Festival runs from July 5 to August 25.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is bringing back its popular Asian Lantern Festival for its seventh year this summer!

This year's Asian Lantern Festival begins on Friday, July 5 and runs on evenings, Tuesday through Sunday, until Aug. 25. The zoo says the festival, which includes colorful light displays, "culturally-inspired cuisine" and acrobatic performances every hour, will bring new experiences to the table for visitors this year.

"Since the inception of Asian Lantern Festival, nearly one million visitors have experienced Northeast Ohio's biggest summer event," Kelly Manderfield, Cleveland Metroparks chief marketing officer, said in a statement. "Thanks to the support of our incredible community partners, we're thrilled to offer guests all-new imaginative displays and more ways than ever to experience the festival with the addition of Dino Cove and Swan Voyage."

A press release from the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo promises "all new large-scale displays and Instagrammable moments, including a 50-foot-tall pagoda, walk-through tunnels, and immersive themed areas including Crystal World and the Blooming Gardens."

The zoo's new Dino Cave and Swan Voyage attractions will both be open on evenings during the festival. Access to Dino Cave is included with tickets to the Asian Lantern Festival, while tickets to Swan Voyage can be purchased for $15. 

Also new this year is a 5K race through the Asian Lantern Festival displays on July 23 at 8:30 p.m. Participants can register for $30 and receive a custom T-shirt, finisher medal, post-race refreshments and admission to the festival. 

Cleveland Metroparks says the the zoo's drive-thru experience will run on select nights during the festival.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by clicking HERE. The advance cost for zoo members is $21 or $63 for four tickets. Non-member costs are $24 or $73 for a four-pack. Tickets can also be purchased same-day at the zoo's box office for $27 until 9:30. The Drive-Thru Experience costs $45 per vehicle for members and $55 for non-members.
