CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is among the attractions / events closed Thursday in the aftermath of Wednesday night’s storms.
A banner at the top of their site announced the closure with the following message Thursday morning:
ZOO CLOSED TODAY, AUGUST 24
The Zoo is closed today for storm damage cleanup. The RainForest is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition, the Asian Lantern Festival has been canceled for tonight and Friday.
"Asian Lantern Festival ticket holders will be contacted by the Zoo’s Guest Services team to reschedule their ticket or receive a refund," officials said. "Ticket holders can also contact the Zoo’s Guest Services by calling 216-635-3391. Tickets are still available for Asian Lantern Festival on Saturday, August 26."
The stormy weather dumped heavy rain across Northeast Ohio, which also resulted in thousands of power outages. At one point, authorities rescued 10 people from the vehicles when a portion of I-90 flooded in Lakewood.
Bash on the Bay – which was set to feature Luke Bryan – has also been called off Thursday “due to unprecedented storm damage and flooding.”
3News also captured footage of a roof collapse at the Pinball Shoppe in North Olmsted amid the damage.
Today's weather forecast, meanwhile, is calling for more storm chances across Northeast Ohio -- especially later tonight.
“This is not going to be like what we experienced last night," explains 3News meteorologist Hollie Strano. "It’s going to be a different kind of scenario that takes place, but we could have strong to severe storms.”
