Cleveland Metroparks Zoo welcomes new giraffe

Standing at approximately 16 feet tall, Rocket is now the tallest giraffe at the Cleveland Zoo – and officials say he’s still growing.

CLEVELAND — There’s a big addition now at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo!

Rocket, a 7-year-old giraffe, is the zoo’s newest Masai giraffe. He comes to Cleveland from the Turtle Back Zoo in New Jersey at the recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Standing at approximately 16 feet tall, Rocket is now the tallest giraffe at the Cleveland Zoo – and officials say he’s still growing.

“He joins female adult giraffes Jada and Jhasmin and guests can now visit him daily,” the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo posted on their Facebook page.

His arrival is perfect timing as June 21 is World Giraffe Day.

Welcome Rocket! Just in time for World Giraffe Day on June 21, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's newest Masai giraffe is a seven-year-old male that comes to Cleveland from Turtle Back Zoo at the recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. He joins female adult giraffes Jada and Jhasmin and guests can now visit him daily! You can spot him in the yard as he’s the tallest giraffe. He's already about 16 feet tall and, as a young adult male, he’s still growing!
